Ahoy!
I’m an independent journalist, radio producer, editor, and sound designer in Portland, Maine. I’ve made shows for ESPN, The New York Times, Slate, Stitcher, Vice, Vox, WNYC, and others.
My podcast, The Briny, tells stories about how we’re changing the sea, and how the sea changes us. It’s part of Hub & Spoke.
I’ve taught courses on narrative nonfiction storytelling for print and audio at Brown University, the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, Maine College of Art & Design, and Bellarmine College.
I worked as a staff producer for Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen, public radio’s weekly arts and culture show (WNYC & PRX). I was also a reporter for the Louisville Courier-Journal in Louisville, KY.
I’m a graduate of New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute and McGill University.

Stuff I do

Planning
Before production begins, I can help chart the shape of a show or series and estimate budget, timing, and staffing.

Production
Producing means different things on different projects. My favorite part is reporting and gathering tape in the field.

Writing and editing
As a writer and editor, I’m always looking for fresh ways to tell a story. Clear organization and sharp writing catch and hold attention.

Sound design
Beneath the semantic level of the script, stories ride on an ocean of sound. Pacing, tone, scoring, and effects carry them along.
